Portugal Expands Golden Visa Scheme with ‘Green Visas’

Portugal has extended the golden visa programs and also has incorporated a new asset. With the expansion of the Portugal Golden Visa scheme, many applicants can now invest more finances and qualify to get a permanent residency in Portugal. The parliament of Portugal turned down the bill which was proposed for the cancellation of the golden visa scheme. With this came into effect is the expansion of the golden visa.


Golden Visa Scheme

The legislature of Portugal accepted the proposal of expanding the Portugal golden visa in order to enhance the number of environment-related projects in the country. The investors who are interested in getting a green visa will need to get qualified for it. They will have to invest at least €500,000 in environmental projects. The projects that they can invest in are renewable energy, ecotourism, organic farming, or any other projects which are related to the environment. You can also prefer to choose a project that aims at reducing carbon emission.

The main reason behind rejecting the proposal for the abolition of the Portugal golden visa is that it has lead to a rapid increase in the country’s economic growth. Till today, there has been an investment of €4.16 billion that has been made on the country by foreign investors. The golden visa scheme along has also increased tourism in the country which has contributed a lot to the economic development. The main investors of the country come from China, Russia, Turkey, and South America.

Requirements for obtaining the Golden Visa

*All the countries except Portuguese and EU citizens can apply for the Portugal golden visa after fulfilling the investment in Portugal.
*The investment made should be enough for at least five years.
*The investment you make should be at least €1,000,000 and should be able to create a minimum of ten jobs.
*There should be a purchase of a real estate worth at least €500,000.
